Live-In Caregiver
Caregivers are individuals who are qualified to provide care for children, elderly persons, or people with disabilities in private homes without supervision. According to the latest laws, live-in caregivers from abroad will no longer be required to reside with their employers.
There are three ways to apply for permanent residence, based on Canadian work experience, as a caregiver:
- Caring for Children class:
If you have provided full-time child care in a home in Canada for at least two years - Caring for People with High Medical Needs Program:
If you have been working in Canada for at least two years as a registered or licensed practical nurse, nurse aid or orderly, or a home support worker - Live-in Caregiver Program:
If you have two years of work experience in the Live-in Caregiver Program in Canada. Take note that both the employer and the employee must follow several steps to meet the requirements of the Live-in Caregiver Program.
Refugees and Asylum
In Canada, the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) decide who is a ‘Protected Person’. The Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program helps one sponsor refugees from abroad who qualify to come to Canada. The sponsor supports the refugees in housing, clothing, food, as well as social and emotional support for the length of the sponsorship.
There are many ways to sponsor refugees:
- Blended Visa Office-Referred Program: The Blended Visa Office-Referred Program is a program where private sponsors and the Government of Canada work together to support a refugee. The United Nations Refugee Agency identifies the refugees that can be sponsored under the program.
- Sponsorship Agreement Holders: Sponsorship agreement holders are groups in Canada that have signed agreements with the Government of Canada to help support refugees from abroad when they come to Canada.
- Groups of Five: Five or more Canadian citizens or permanent residents over the age of 18 can sponsor one or more refugees to come to Canada to settle. A Group of Five can only sponsor an applicant who already has a refugee status. Similary, Community Sponsor is an organization, association or corporation that can sponsor refugees to come to Canada.
- Joint Assistance Sponsorship Program: Through such programmes, organizations partner with the Government to resettle refugees with special needs.
